Ingredients

Oat Mixture
  • 1 cup (80 g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk — dairy or unsweetened plant milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons (20 g) chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon (21 g) honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon (1.5 g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.5 g) salt
Toppings
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) fresh berries
  • 1/2 banana (60 g) — sliced
  • 2 tablespoons (32 g) peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon (10 g) chopped nuts — optional

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Two Glass Jars
  • Spoon
  • Refrigerator

Method

  1. Combine rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir until evenly combined.
  2. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes, then stir again. This helps the chia seeds distribute evenly and prevents thick clumps.
  3. Divide the mixture between two clean jars. Press the oats gently below the liquid so they hydrate evenly overnight.
  4. Cover the jars and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight. The oats should become creamy, thick, and spoonable.
  5. Check the texture before serving. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk for softer oats, or stir in extra chia seeds for a thicker texture.
  6. Top each jar with berries, banana, peanut butter, and chopped nuts. Add toppings just before eating for fresher texture and better crunch.
  7. Serve chilled, or warm the oats gently in the microwave if you prefer a cozy breakfast. Stir well before eating.

Notes

For creamy, soft oats, use the listed milk amount and refrigerate overnight. For thicker oats, add extra chia seeds or reduce the milk slightly. Keep crunchy toppings separate until serving so they stay crisp. Customize with cocoa powder, apples and cinnamon, berries, coconut, raisins, or nut butter. Assemble jars gently without compacting the oats too tightly. Refrigerate prepared oats for up to 4 days. For freezing, portion the oat mixture into freezer-safe containers without fresh toppings and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, stir, and add fresh toppings before serving.
