Buttercream Base
  • cup unsalted butter softened
  • cup vegetable shortening room temperature
  • cups powdered sugar sifted
  • tbsp meringue powder
  • tbsp heavy cream adjust as needed
  • tsp vanilla extract
  • tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Beat butter and shortening until fluffy and smooth, about three minutes.
  2. Add powdered sugar gradually. Mix on low speed to prevent a sugary cloud.
  3. Add meringue powder, vanilla, salt, and cream. Beat until fully incorporated.
  4. Increase speed and whip for three to five minutes until light, creamy, and pipeable.
  5. Adjust consistency with small amounts of cream for softer frosting or extra sugar for firmer texture.
  6. Use immediately for decorating or store covered until needed.

Notes

For a softer finish, add a little more cream. For crisp decorative edges, add extra powdered sugar. Chill briefly if the kitchen is very warm. During assembly, keep piping bags out of direct sunlight. Customize flavor with citrus zest, almond extract, or cocoa powder. Store covered at room temperature for short periods or refrigerate for longer storage. Freeze airtight for up to three months and rewhip before use.
